Pechiney Plastic Packaging

This company is located in Prospect Park and has changed names from the former American National Can.  There were issues raised when their Title V air permit came up for renewal and the residents have spoke with the MPCA about the problems.  Currently, the VOC emissions are being reduced and processes containing current Hazardous Air Pollutants are being phased out.  The company is working with residents in Prospect Park and trying to reduce levels of emissions.

Their VOC emissions of 532 tons are the largest listed in Hennepin County, but the trend is decreasing.  The 1999 TRI lists releases of  Methyl Ethyl Ketone--32,000 lbs, Toluene --23,000 lbs, 1,4 Dioxane--11,000 lbs. These levels are expected to decline and ultimately be removed either by being controlled by a thermal oxidizer or elimination  of usage in products. This company was profiled in the Marcy Holmes Neighborhood Environmental Profile in 1997.
