Landlord’s address
Dear Ms. _____________,
It has come to our attention that the renters of your property at ___________. are planning to move out in August.
We are concerned neighbors on _____________ who have been in contact with you in the past about troublesome, as well as illegal, behavior originating from the residents and guests at ________. We have had to call the police when we felt we had no other recourse.
We are encouraging you now to carefully screen your next tenants in order to forestall future disruptions in our neighborhood. There are currently numerous landlords here who have earned the respect of the local residents by taking into account the impact of disruptive tenants. These landlords often include in their leases a prohibition against large & loud parties and add phrases in their advertising such as “non-party environment” and “quiet street--no parties.”
We are not a dormitory extension of the University. We are hard-working folks who devote a good deal of time and money to our properties, and to maintaining a cohesive sense of community with each other. We are quite sure that you want the same sense of peace and security for your own neighborhood, as opposed to unruly crowds of young people destroying property, blaring music, setting illegal fires, drunkenly urinating onto lawns and gardens, to name only some of the actions of past and present tenants and their visitors at ______________.
There are many quiet, serious young people and students renting here who are respectful to their neighbors and who contribute positively to the neighborhood. This sort of tenant can be found through careful screening and by the landlord making clear what he/she considers unacceptable behavior.
We therefore urge you, when considering prospective tenants for this address, that you consider not only protecting your investment in your own property, but the peace and security of ours. Absentee landlords can also be good neighbors. Thank you.
Sincerely, (the names below are listed with permission of the residents)
